Spot rates from Asia to the US climbed last week, and most are still sitting at higher levels than we saw in late September and early October. The increase can be attributed to a few factors, including the most recent high tariff threats on China imports, capacity reductions, and general desire among carriers to prop up rates. This latest development underscores the volatility of the market. We continue to see shifting dynamics and rebalancing of supply and demand, particularly in response to tariff policy announcements and warnings.
There are growing backlogs at Rotterdam and Antwerp due to recent labor disputes. A strike in Rotterdam ended last week, but congestion and delays will persist. Expect longer transit times for any cargo transiting Rotterdam and Antwerp, including transshipments.
As always, we remind shippers to continue to plan ahead and book in advance, even in softer markets. Demand can change very quickly.
